Pick a Card, My Dear

Sudden Downpour

It was sunny when you left home, so you didn’t take an umbrella. An hour later, you’re caught in a torrential downpour. You run into the first store you can find — it happens to be a dark, slightly shabby antique store, full of old artifacts, books, and dust. The shop’s ancient proprietor walks out of the back room to greet you. Tell us what happens next!

“Good afternoon. How may I help you dear?” the little old lady asked as she stood up from behind her counter.

“Oh nothing. I got caught in the rain and your shop was the closest. If you don’t mind I will just look around until the rain dies down.” I said.

“Of course dear. Would you like some tea?” I agreed to the tea and she handed me a cup of delicious peppermint tea. “This kind of tea is my favorite,” I said.

“I know,” she responded. My eyebrows slowly rose and the hair on the back of my neck prickled. “You do?” I asked.

“Of course. I have been waiting for you. I have watched you walk by my shop every day and I knew that one day you would come in and that day is today.” I walked over to the counter and peered at the lady. I noticed a deck of tarot cards splayed out in front of her. The next thing I noticed was the she was blind. I took a cautious step back.

“Do not be alarmed my dear. Please, pick a card,” she said as she waived her weathered bone white hand over the tarot cards. I stepped back up to the counter and began to select a card at random. “No, no, no. Feel the cards. Close your eyes and feel the cards. Run your hand over them and choose a card. You will know which one to choose.” As the woman could not see I had no idea how she knew what I was doing but I closed my eyes and ran my hand along the cards. I felt a sudden vibration in the palm of my hand and selected that card. “Good,” the old woman said. She took the card from me and laid it out on the counter.

“Ah yes. This card tell of hidden potential and danger. It is what I expected from you, but now I am certain. Many changes are about to happen my dear. Be ready. When the time comes come back and see me. I believe the rain has stopped.” Confused by what the woman had just told me I turned to find the rain had indeed stopped. “I’m sorry, but I’m confused,” I said but stopped short when I turned back to the woman to find no one there. The tarot cards had also vanished. I looked around quickly thinking that perhaps she had moved but no one was there. I slowly backed my way to the door and quickly slipped through it. The sun was back out and it gave me some comfort. “What had the woman meant? Where did she go? What just happened?” where the questions running through my mind as I walked away from the store. I turned to look back at the old antique shop one more time only to find an empty store front with a for rent sign covered in cob webs.

Once a Lady…Always a Lady

The origin of my blog name has a very cute story behind it that I would like to share with all of you. Christmas 2013, I received from my fiance, the best Christmas present I have ever received. He bought me a small piece of land in Scotland and with that land came the title of Lady. You see, anyone who owns property in Scotland has a title. So I am forever more a Lady. I can put the land in a will and hand down the title to my children. It was the most interesting gift ever. It was so thoughtful and sweet.

The concept is very interesting too. The land that I own is part of a nature reserve, so while I will never be able to build anything on it, I have helped to safe the environment there. It came with a folder, a title/deed to my land, paperwork to legally change my name officially to Lady, I have not yet done this but I will, and information on your piece of land and the reserve.

If you are interested in becoming a Laird or Lady of Scotland click on the “Highland Titles” link below. You can give the gift of a title to someone you love or give it to yourself. It is the cutest gift though.

Oh the trials of being a grown up…

Today, upon getting home from work, my fiancé and I discovered to our utter dismay that our bathroom no longer has electricity. After checking the fuse box we found that all the fuses were fine. We tried resetting the whole house, but no, the electricity still was not there.
Of course the next and most reasonable thing to do was to make an internet search, for as Louis Black cleverly put, we are a generation of researchers.
The search seemed helpful. It appeared to be a simple problem of a tripped CFI outlet. The information stated that it should be in the room that no longer had power. We searched to no avail. The outlet was not there. We then took it upon ourselves to check every outlet in the house only to find that not one of our outlets contained the simple mechanism that seemed would fix our problem.
We conducted more internet research. We checked outdoor plugs and fuse looking boxes and still there was no CFI button.
We have been defeated by a bathroom.
We gave up.
Hopefully we will be able to find and fix the problem and return the electricity to our little bathroom, but until then we will create a romantic atmosphere with candles and wait to fix the problem.

Let’s start at the beginning…

Welcome!

I have decided to begin blogging in order to further my writing skills and perhaps make a career of it. I have so many new things going on in my life that I want to share them as they happen.

To start, I am getting married. The Love of my life and I have decided to get married. We are not having a traditional marriage as we have both been married before. We are going to wake up one morning, put on your wedding clothes and go get married. It is going to be the best, stress-free wedding anyone has ever had.

Secondly, we are planning to begin our family as well. Of course we are waiting until after we get married, but the plan are in the works and many of my posts will be geared towards baby planning as this is my first child; hopefully my experiences will be able to help other new moms-to-be.

Finally, I am graduating next spring with a Bachelor of Arts in English and I plan to continue on to Graduate School to get a degree in History. This is very excited for me. I am currently looking at the options of what I want to do with that career path and I will share those with you as well.

My life seems to be very, very busy just now and it seems that it will only continue to get busier. My goal is to share my adventures in life, parenthood, and career. I am love crafting and trying new recipes and I will share those as well. I want to gain experience in writing and a foothold in the online blogging community.

So, I hope you will enjoy following me on my adventures!
